Welcome to North Coast New South Wales!
The North Coast of New South Wales may not be home to Australia’s main attractions, but its pristine beaches, ancient rainforests and verdant valleys make it one of the country’s most desirable destinations. Running from just north of Sydney to the Queensland border, the region boasts hundreds of kilometres of unspoiled beaches and a renowned surf culture permeates the whole of the coast. Byron Bay is its most well known surf destination, while Yamba is a trendy beach town known for its seafood and arts scene. Nearby, Nymboida National Park and Coffs Harbour are both popular playgrounds for adventure sports. The latter is another of the region’s tourism hotspots and boasts a diverse display of natural beauty combined with world-class golf and a café culture. Among the area’s attractions are the Solitary Islands Marine Park, which is popular for whale watching and scuba diving, and Waterfall Way, a scenic drive that takes visitors from the coast to the open plains of the New England Tablelands. In Port Macquarie, the historic Trial Bay Gaol features large gaol ruins that date to the 1880s and are surrounded by blue waters and white-sand beaches, while to the south the Ellenborough Falls are Australia’s largest single-drop waterfalls. Just north of Sydney, the Hunter Valley boasts dozens of wineries, the cultural city of Newcastle and more of the region’s legendary beaches, as well as Barrington Tops National Park is a World Heritage Site with extinct volcanoes and subtropical rainforest.
